Application Performance Management in a Virtualized Environment

چکیده
Growing business demands for new IT functionality (web sites, self-service portals, ecommerce, etc.) has led to a proliferation of hardware and software in the data center. Initially, though the cost benefi ts of x86 servers were (and still are) compelling, concerns around performance and reliability dictated a “one server, one service” implementation approach, where individual servers were limited to one application or a small group of highly connected applications that provide a specifi c service. The capabilities and performance of this class of server have improved dramatically, but in many data centers this has resulted in extensive “server sprawl,” with each server running typically at 15-20 percent utilization.

Characterizing Workload of Web Applications on Virtualized Servers
With the ever increasing demands of cloud computing services, planning and management of cloud resources has become a more and more important issue which directed affects the resource utilization and SLA and customer satisfaction. But before any management strategy is made, a good understanding of applications' workload in virtualized environment is the basic fact and principle to the resource ...
متن کاملResource Provisioning for Multi-tier Virtualized Server Applications
Virtualizing the x86-based data center creates a dynamic environment for server application deployment and resource sharing. Resource management in this environment is challenging as applications are under fluctuating workloads causing diverse resource demands across their tiers. Resource allocation adaptation is essential for high performance machine utilization. This paper presents feedback c...
متن کاملDynamic configuration support for power-aware virtualized server clusters
Currently, an increasing number of large-scale server clusters (data centers) are being designed for supporting many different web-based application services in a seamless, transparent fashion. In this scenario, the rising energy costs for keeping up those server clusters is becoming an important concern. We present in this work a dynamic configuration support for specifying and deploying power...
متن کاملApplication Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment with the Consideration of Performance Interference
—Virtualization technology which can make multiple virtual machines run in a shared physical host has received much attention. However, the consolidation can result in the contention in the shared resources and lead to a degradation of the performance deployed on the virtual machines. To avoid such degradation while respect the utility of the physical host, it needs to study the performance in...
متن کامل1 Performance Investigation of Multi - tier Web Applications in Xen Virtualized Environment
Server virtualization comforts deployment of Internet services and enables cloud service providers to improve resource utilization, fault tolerance, and energy efficiency by consolidating virtual servers within a shared environment. Although deploying services in virtualized environment brings benefits to service providers in terms of service agility, functionality, and reusability in compariso...
متن کاملpMapper: Power and Migration Cost Aware Application Placement in Virtualized Systems
Workload placement on servers has been traditionally driven by mainly performance objectives. In this work, we investigate the design, implementation, and evaluation of a power-aware application placement controller in the context of an environment with heterogeneous virtualized server clusters. The placement component of the application management middleware takes into account the power and mi...
